Canada Post Foundation for Mental Health

Welcome to the Canada Post Foundation for Mental Health

$1.5 MILLION RAISED TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY MENTAL ILLNESS PROGRAMS Seven million Canadian will need help for mental health problems this year alone. Many will not get it because of the stigma attached to the illness.

Thanks to the support of Canadians across the country and of Canada Post employees, customers and suppliers, more than $2.5 million has been raised for the Canada Post Foundation for Mental Health over the past two years. The conversation about mental health is changing.

In September 2009, the Foundation dispersed its inaugural grants to 19 community-based, non-profit organizations across Canada. Grants ranging from $10,000 to $75,000—for a total of more than $1 million—were delivered to community organizations providing front-line support and care for mental health consumers* and their caregivers. While the demand is huge and the need for help is almost without measure, the Foundation, along with Canada Post employees, are providing encouragement, real support and hope to those working so hard to combat mental illness.

The Foundation was formed when Canada Post adopted mental health as its cause of choice in 2007. Funds are raised a number of ways, including the sale of a special commemorative postage stamp, donations at post office counters during a fall fundraising campaign and contributions from Canada Post’s employees, customers and suppliers. Two mental health stamps are available at post offices nationwide, each booklet sold generates $1 for the Foundation. Additionally, donations can be made online anytime.

The 2010 granting process will open in April. Please visit this site then for additional information and applications.
